Get Your Kids Vaccinated During Flu Season

Flu season is upon us, and it’s more important than ever to ensure our children are protected. Vaccination is the best way to prevent the flu, and it’s essential to get your kids vaccinated during flu season. Not only does vaccination protect your child from getting sick, but it also helps to reduce the spread of the flu to others.

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness that can cause severe illness and even death, especially in young children and older adults. Symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, and fatigue. The flu can also lead to complications such as pneumonia, ear infections, and even hospitalization. Children under the age of five are at a higher risk of complications from the flu, making it even more important to get them vaccinated.

The flu vaccine is safe and effective. It’s been thoroughly tested and used for decades to protect against the flu. The vaccine is formulated each year based on the strains of the flu that are most likely to circulate during the upcoming flu season. It’s important to get vaccinated every year as the flu strains can change from year to year.

Vaccination is especially important for children who are at a higher risk of complications from the flu. This includes children with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease. It’s also important for children who are immunocompromised, such as those undergoing chemotherapy or those who have HIV.

Getting your child vaccinated is easy and convenient. Many pediatricians and family doctors offer the flu vaccine, and it’s also available at most pharmacies. It’s a quick and painless shot that can be given during a regular check-up. The flu vaccine is also available in a nasal spray form for children who are afraid of needles.

It’s also essential to teach your children the importance of getting vaccinated and good hygiene practices to prevent the spread of the flu. Encourage them to wash their hands frequently, cover their mouths and noses when they cough or sneeze, and stay home if they are sick. By taking these steps, you can help protect your children and others from the flu this season.

In conclusion, vaccination is the best way to protect your child from getting sick during flu season. It’s essential to get your child vaccinated as soon as possible to ensure maximum protection against the flu. At HHM Health, we understand the importance of protecting our community from the flu, and we make it easy for you to get your child vaccinated. Our clinic offers the flu vaccine for children and adults, and our team is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care. If you have any questions or concerns about the flu vaccine, please don’t hesitate to contact us. At HHM Health, we are committed to helping you and your family stay healthy during flu season and throughout the year. Let’s work together to protect our community from the flu and ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare.

Imaging Center and Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At HHM Health, we are spreading awareness and offering our services to those battling breast cancer and those who want to take preventative testing. HHM Imaging is proud of its fantastic imaging center that is opening this fall. HHM Imaging will diagnose patients faster and more accurately than ever before. This center features a brand-new, state of the art mammogram machine, an X-ray machine, a bone density scan, and a sonogram machine.

While all the new equipment in our imaging center is fantastic and functional, the real highlight is the mammogram machine. With the mammogram machine, we can detect breast cancer early, which is when it is in the most treatable stage and treatments are less extensive. Since 1990, mammograms have helped reduce breast cancer in the United States by forty percent. Mammograms detect breast cancer lumps up to two or three years before you or your primary health care provider would be able to feel them.

HHM Health wants to help those who have breast cancer or may have breast cancer, so we help all patients, regardless of if they have insurance or not. Our goal is to reduce the healthcare crisis, which is why we help provide affordable health care for everyone. During October, we invite patients to make an appointment at our imaging center as early detection is the best protection. If diagnosed, we’ll work with you to plan treatments and help you fight breast cancer. You’re not alone in this fight. HHM Health is here to help you through this process.

At HHM Health, we strive to further the great communities around us through our work in the medical field. At our medical centers, HHM’s healthcare professionals provide quality healthcare to all their neighbors with love, compassion, and respect. We are fully equipped to handle any situation related to the health of an individual and provide affordable healthcare to all patients in need.

Around Dallas, residents have suffered from a healthcare crisis for years, and our goal at HHM Health is not simply to help it but instead to solve it. With 39% of the Dallas population uninsured, it is important for people to receive the health care they need without drowning in medical bills served by hospitals. HHM Health guarantees safe, affordable healthcare regardless of background, race, ethnicity, or gender.

We offer services that include family practice, women’s health, pediatrics, dental, vision, and behavioral health. If you need it, we provide it! HHM Health values compassion, advocacy, respect, excellence, and servant’s hearts, demonstrating how much we truly care. HHM Health is constantly training our healthcare professionals to ensure they use the newest medical practices.

If you or a loved one need any of our services, send them to HHM Health. We will be more than happy to provide them with the care they deserve and be your medical home.

North Texas Giving Day

North Texas Giving Day is on Thursday, September 22, 2022, and HHM Health is proud to announce that we will be participating in this wonderful event! North Texas Giving Day is a one-day, online event that encourages the citizens of North Texas to give back to their community and support their favorite charitable organization. Early giving opens September 1, allowing additional time to give for those who cannot on September 22, and for those who would like to give a little extra this season.

For every dollar donated to HHM Health, 74 cents will go directly toward patient care as we raise money to fight health disparities in Dallas. Dallas County is one of the most uninsured counties in the United States of America. Because of this, many refuse to see a doctor as they fear health care expenses and costly examinations. At HHM Health, we believe everyone deserves equal access to health care, which is why our doctors and staff provide affordable health care to the residents of Dallas regardless of race, gender, culture, ethnicity, language, mental or physical disability, or manner of payment. If a patient does not have health insurance, they are seen on a sliding-scale fee.

Over the last year, HHM Health locations across Dallas have treated 40,000 patients, proving that the need for affordable healthcare is greater now more than ever before! HHM Health has eight locations across Dallas County, which include two family practices, women’s health, two pediatrics, dental, behavioral health, and the Rosewood Vision Center. Currently, HHM Health relies heavily on donations and federal grants. With your donation, HHM Health will be able to help more patients than ever before. We urge you to donate this North Texas Giving Day and to check out fellow charities. At the end of the day, we are all working to make North Texas a better place for its residents.

At HHM Health, we love doing what we do and giving back to the Dallas County community. We look forward to continuing our operations for years to come. For more information regarding North Texas Giving Day and how you can help provide barrier-free, quality healthcare to those in need, please visit

Mental Health Services and Interventions Beginning at Age 4

At HHM Health, our pediatric clinic in the Victory Meadow neighborhood is offering mental health services and interventions beginning at age 4. At HHM Health, we believe it is important to address mental health from the first sign of illness or other issues.

The mental health services offered to children at HHM Health begin with an assessment. Then, our doctors develop a plan to address the goals desired by the child and family. While we offer a variety of services, the plan put together by doctors may include crisis intervention, skill training, development skills, play therapy, counseling, case management and peer services.

When a child is treated for issues regarding their mental health, there are many benefits. Children diagnosed and treated for mental health issues are more likely to succeed at home and in their community. The benefits of having a child diagnosed and treated for mental health issues include the development of new communication skills, new ways to manage emotions, new ways to relax and create, improved social functions, and more!

Any child with a mental illness must be diagnosed and treated promptly with a team of doctors committed to providing the care they need. At HHM Health, we can offer that care and begin to treat mental health at a child’s fourth birthday. If you believe your child needs to be diagnosed or treated for a mental illness, please contact our office to make an appointment with our pediatric facility

Your physical and mental health begins on the inside. What are you eating and drinking to power your body? Our licensed dietician at HHM aims to promote well-being by using nutrition to empower a healthy lifestyle, control weight gain and manage chronic diseases, such as diabetes. Our team also hosts a monthly Community Fit Club!

Unlike some other healthcare centers, HHM Health does not specialize in one age group. We aspire to provide healthcare for all individuals, including children. Our pediatric services include annual check-ups, sick visits and immunizations. We are also able to provide treatment of chronic childhood diseases.

What are Important Things to Look for When It Comes to Pediatric Care?

Choosing the right pediatrician is one of the most important decisions you will have to make for your child. A pediatrician will play an important role in your family; as your child grows, they will advise you on medical decisions that are essential for your child’s growth and protecting their health. The right pediatric caregiver will help you and your family ensure that the health of your child is never compromised. You will see this pediatrician frequently, especially through the early years of your child’s life. At HHM Health, we believe the following are the most important qualities to consider when it comes to pediatric care:

Referrals and Research

When preparing to choose a caregiver, be sure to ask your friends, colleagues, family and other trusted individuals for recommendations. It is important to make sure that you can easily and conveniently access the pediatrician you choose. Make sure to look into the office location, available hours and who accepts your health insurance. Some doctors also stop taking new patients after reaching a certain limit, so it is important to research as you look for a pediatric caregiver.

Credentials and Experience

When choosing a caregiver, you want to ensure they are comfortable with evaluating and treating everyone from infants to adolescents. You can typically find the credentials and educational background of each pediatric specialist through reference websites online. Through learning about a pediatric caregiver’s credentials and experience, you gain insight into their practices and learn about the type of caregiver they are.

Up-To-Date Practices

Healthcare practices and treatments are rapidly advancing. That is why it is important to have a healthcare provider who participates in continuing education, as well as is constantly up-to-date with the latest medical practices. It is important to consider this when choosing a pediatric caregiver for your child.

You are on The Same Page

At HHM Health, we advise clients to meet with healthcare providers and ask them questions about their practices before making a final decision. Your pediatrician will be your advisor regarding the health of your child, so being honest regarding your preferences for treatment is important. Just as there are various styles of parenting, there are several approaches to child healthcare. Due to those many different styles, you and your child’s caregiver must be on the same page.

There are many things to consider when choosing a pediatric caregiver for your child, which is why it is key to keep these factors in mind during the process. At HHM Health, we are proud to offer pediatric services! Our pediatricians are professional, up-to-date, and have the credentials to prove it. We hope you consider us when searching for a pediatrician in the Dallas area. We are more than happy to help answer any questions you may have about this important stage in your child’s life!

Why Behavioral Health is Important

When you are sick with a severe ache that leaves you on your couch in pain, you go to the doctor. You take care of yourself and see a medical provider so that you can take steps to feel better. Your mental health is no different. Behavioral health treatment helps people live healthier, happier lives, which is of the utmost importance.

What is Behavioral Health?

Behavioral health deals with how your mind and habits impact your mental and physical health. Your diet, sleeping schedule, drinking habits, exercise and more contribute to your well-being. Someone who struggles with behavioral health may experience depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma, chronic health disorders, addiction or substance abuse problems. These all impact your physical and mental health and should be treated seriously.

Why Seek Treatment?

Behavioral health treatment can significantly improve the quality of your life. It can help you develop healthier coping patterns so that you can handle stressors in a more manageable, beneficial way. Instead of turning to self-destruction, you can find hope in treatment. You and your counselor can work together to develop a treatment plan that works best for you.

Behavioral health treatments can help you live a healthier and happier life. Counselors aim to provide you with the tools necessary to change your negative thoughts and behaviors and replace them with healthier ways of coping with stressful situations. Behavioral health patients who experience depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma and other chronic mental health disorders can find significant relief and a vastly improved life by seeking treatment.

What Can You Expect from Treatment?

Our team of counselors works with our medical staff to help patients who suffer from depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma and other chronic mental health disorders. Our counselors work with you to identify negative behaviors and responses to situations and help you to replace those behaviors with positive ones. Positive behavioral health allows you to cope better with stress, live a healthier and happier life and develop overall healthier habits. These new habits can allow you to be more productive, become happier, develop positive life habits like eating and sleeping better and be overall more positive.

Behavioral health is important for a myriad of reasons. Just like you would take care of your stomach ache when you get sick, you should take care of your mental health and well-being as well. Your behavioral health encompasses all areas of your life and thus, influences your physical well-being. To live a healthier, happier and more productive life, you should pay attention to your behavioral health.

We value your whole health. Call HHM Health today to book an appointment with one of our trusted counselors to begin your healing journey. HHM Health provides accessible, affordable and compassionate care. HHM Health is a Medical Home providing primary care services and beyond.

Our New Imaging Center

HHM Health is pleased to announce that we are expanding! HHM Health has officially moved into the third floor of the Northwest Community Center. Our expansion includes our brand-new imaging center, a new pharmacy, and a new optometry chair. At HHM Imaging, our doctors are able to diagnose patients quicker and easier than ever before! Included in our new imaging suite is a mammogram machine, an X-ray machine, a bone density scan and a sonogram machine.

At HHM Imaging, we are excited about all of the new technology in our imagine center. The mammogram machine is particularly important as it can help detect breast cancer early. When we can detect cancer early, the cancer is at its most treatable state and treatments are less extensive and risky. Since 1990, mammograms have helped reduce breast cancer in the United States by forty percent.

Also featured in our new imaging center is a brand new X-ray machine. X-rays are a common imaging test that have been used by physicians for decades. These machines help doctors view the inside of your body without making an incision. This technique is non-invasive and allows doctors to diagnose, monitor and treat a patient’s medical concern. X-rays are primarily used to examine areas where pain and discomfort are prominent, monitor the progression of a diagnosed disease or check how a treatment is working. At HHM Imaging, your doctor will prepare you for an X-ray before it occurs to ensure you know what is happening at all times during the procedure.

A new bone density scan will also be in use at HHM Imaging’s new center. Bone density scans, also commonly known as DEXA scans, help diagnose bone-related health problems or to assess the risk of you breaking a bone. This scan measures the grams of calcium and other bone minerals packed into a bone segment. The higher your bone mineral content, the denser your bones will be. The density of the bone determines the strength of the bone and the likeness of it breaking. Usually, we test bones in the hip, spine, and forearm.

Through this expansion, HHM Health will be able to serve the community of Dallas in a more efficient manner as these new tools will allow for a more careful and accurate diagnosis of our patients. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, please contact HHM Health to schedule an appointment with one of experienced physicians. We will work with you and help you get the treatment that you deserve.

Back to School Physicals

While children on summer break are planning their next fun activity, parents are already preparing for the approaching school year. Preparing for the school year requires much more than binders, paper and pencils, as parents must worry about making sure their child has the required back-to-school physical. To perform well and learn all that they can, a child must be healthy, which is why a back-to-school physical is important for all children.

Requirements and Recommendations

At HHM Health, we highly recommend children receive physical exams every two years. However, in the state of Texas, students entering kindergarten or seventh grade are required to have a certain number of doses per required vaccination.

Before a child enters kindergarten, the following vaccines and doses are given:

  • Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTap): 4 doses
  • Polio: 4 doses
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): 2 doses
  • Hepatitis B: 3 doses
  • Varicella: 2 doses
  • Hepatitis A: 2 doses

Before a child enters seventh grade, the following vaccinations are given:

  • Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTap): 1 booster if at least five years have passed since the last dose of DTaP.
  • Meningococcal (MCV4): 1 dose

Sports Physicals

If your child plays a sport at school, a physical is required. These exams are very important for keeping a child healthy, as they screen for heart conditions, anxiety, depression, bone conditions and so much more! Sports physicals allow students time to discuss important matters with their doctors, including concussions and menstrual changes.

Some schools offer sports clinics that perform physicals for student-athletes. However, HHM Health strongly advises parents to schedule a physical with the child’s primary care provider. Children typically feel more comfortable with their primary care provider as there is a prior relationship, and it allows the primary healthcare provider to update the child’s medical record.

Physicals should be scheduled in advance to school starting to help guarantee that the date and time are available and convenient to you and your athlete.

Preparing for the Physical

To prepare for a physical, parents can help their children by discussing the importance of vaccinations before visiting the physician. It is best to remember that every child is different. Some children need time to prepare for vaccines and examinations, while others handle the stress better by simply receiving a talk the morning before the appointment.

Before bringing your child in for a physical, please check with their school to see if there are additional forms that need to be filled out by your child’s primary healthcare provider. If so, please print them out and bring them with you to your appointment. If you have never visited HHM Health before and are seeing a new provider, we advise bringing copies of past vaccinations, so we can update records.

If you have visited HHM Health before, please notify us if your family’s medical history, insurance or your child’s medication list has changed.

As the date of your child’s physical approaches, please write down any questions or concerns that you wish to ask your child’s healthcare provider about their growth, development and health. This allows you and your child to begin the school year with the peace of mind that you need to have success in the upcoming year.

Call or visit our website today to schedule your child’s back-to-school physical!

Community Fit Club

HHM Health is proud to announce that we are officially launching our Community Fit Club on June 30th! This new club is free and is the first of its kind at HHM Health. The Community Fit Club is a one hour health fair and social hour that will cover fun, healthy recipes and fitness tips. Our expert physicians at HHM Health created this program to help the Dallas community commit to a healthier lifestyle.

Each month, our physicians will share a new recipe as well as a new fitness tip. This month our recipe spotlight is almond crackers with hummus. This is a super healthy recipe and is a great on-the-go snack as well! Almond crackers are low in carbs, contain protein, and include healthy fat. Plus, they have amazing benefits as they ensure you receive necessary vitamins. There are so many snacks you can make just by using almond crackers, but, at HHM Health, our physicians highly recommend dipping the crackers in hummus. Hummus is not only delicious, but it is also nutritious. Hummus is high in fiber and protein. With such great benefits, it is no surprise that hummus helps people lose weight, so long as they follow other dietary measures. Almond crackers and hummus are also vegan, so it is a perfect healthy snack for everyone, regardless of dietary restrictions.

This month at HHM Health, our fitness highlight will discuss walking tips that help tone the backs of your arms. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise you can get. There is no equipment required and there are several safe spaces here in Dallas for residents to walk around and get their steps in. Usually walking tends to focus more on the muscles in your legs, but, with help from our expert physicians, you can learn how to target the backs of your arms as well, furthering weight loss.

The Community Fit Club begins Thursday, June 30, 2022 and lasts from 12 pm to 1 pm at 5750 Pineland Drive. If you are unable to make it, HHM Health will be live streaming the event on Facebook. We can’t wait to see you there and hope to continue hosting events like this!

At HHM Health, we strive to further the great city of Dallas through our work in the medical field.  Our expert physicians are able to handle any situation relating to the health of a patient, while also providing affordable health care to patients in need. We offer services that include family practice, women’s health, pediatrics, dental, vision, behavioral health, and even nutrition. If you need it, we provide it! HHM Health values compassion, advocacy, respect, excellence, and servant’s hearts, demonstrating how much we truly care. HHM Health is constantly training our healthcare professionals to ensure they use the newest medical practices. As the city of Dallas continues to grow, we hope to open more centers around the Dallas area to continue to serve the community and those living in it!
